Flock Diagnostics operates on the premise that disease prevention is more cost effective
than treating disease.
A small sampling of the services provided include:
BIOSECURITY: Are my premises secure at this moment. If not how do I improve the biosecurity? Do I need biosecurity
or is it merely a nuisance? A buzzword? In short, biosecurity means isolating your birds to the maximal practical extent.
It means keeping them isolated from other humans, other birds, rodents and insects too. Biosecurity need not be complicated.
In fact, it is best to follow the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sweetie) principle. Complicated cumbersome procedures are
rarely followed for long.
VACCINATION: What vaccinations are available for my birds? How often is vaccination recommended?
Vaccinations are largely unavailable for many of the "minor" species, including peafowl, mallards, geese, banties, pigeons and
doves and many others. This unavailability places a greater emphasis on biosecurity.
NUTRITION: Am I getting all I'm paying for? Am I getting something I do not need or want? If you purchase
feed in bulk, save a 1 pound sample bag from each load or lot of feed delivered to your farm. Use a paper bag. Plastic
sacks may absorb or bind some materials.
DIAGNOSTICS: Sometimes despite all efforts a flock is affected by disease. Flock Diagnostics will arrange
necropsy, toxicology, bacteriology, virology, etc as necessary to attempt to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. Flock owners
must understand however, that in some instances despite the best of efforts no definitive diagnosis will be possible. Flock
owners will be expected to pay laboratory services and shipping.
